For some reason, word of mouth was not complimentary but I decided to develop my own opinion and I'm glad I did. The Hare and the Hound is a great Irish themed pub located in the Quiet Corner of Connecticut. You will get a warm, comfy feeling right away and that is always the best! I had to lead off with a proper pint of Guinness. What a nice surprise when it was topped with a shamrock. See the photo below. How cool is that! Great service and special touch! The food was very good. I enjoyed the excellent Guinness Stew along with the Irish Nachos. The nachos had a little too much craft ale cheese sauce but they were still very good. My wife had the Fish and Chips. These were excellent and the homemade slaw and tartar sauce finished it off nicely. The Hare and the Hound gets it right!

Very homey but appropriately classy ambience. Loved the diverse menu. We ordered a drink that was pretty sweet (not their fault, it just wasn't to my husband's taste). The bartender was incredibly nice and gave us a little extra gin and lemon to make it so much better, even though we didn't ask. We live about 35 minutes away and will definitely be back when we're in the area!

Party of 4 on 10-19-2024, reservations, sat outside on the patio for a late lunch. 2 of us had fried chicken sandwiches, 1 had a grilled chicken BLT, 1 had the Irish Cuban. Food was delicious, definitely a step above a standard / typical sandwich. The onion rings are absolutely delicious as well. The staff seemed short handed, the annual pumpkin festival was taking place, but our service was great. I would recommend this place / gladly eat here again!

We went out on a date night with the dogs and saw that The Hare and The Hound allowed dogs to be on there patio! We got sat right away and they even got us a water bowl for the dogs The food was DELICIOUS! The ambiance was so cute & cozy! AND they have fire lamps outside which made it nice Our waitress was very patient and accommodating! and other staff were so nice!! Definitely would recommend!

Visited Putnam over the weekend. Me and partner decided to stop into the hare and the hound. We weren't disappointed with our experience. Our server Courtney was awesome! Will definitely be going to again!

Quaint little downtown area. The breakfast here aims to please. Service was quick, food was great. Nice local place!!

Hare and the Hound deserves a solid 5 stars! The on-tap Guinness was absolutely amazing, delivering a rich and authentic experience for beer enthusiasts. Despite the higher price tag, the Shepherd's Pie was worth every penny, featuring real lamb that elevated the dish to another level. The restaurant's renovation from the former "Someplace Special" was a great decision, creating a welcoming and charming ambiance. A delightful experience that I highly recommend!

Shotgun review: - Fun theme & decor - Friendly service, albeit a bit slow - Delicious, comforting Irish food* - Nice patio - Good for big groups - Strangely expensive cocktails** *I ordered the "Hound's Dish" - house brined corned beef, cabbage, carrots, potatoes, & spicy mustard. It came out in a literal dog bowl which gave us all a good laugh. It was phenomenal! It tasted just like how my Irish dad makes the same dish. **I ordered the "Mayor's Mule" (which is just an Irish Mule) cocktail. It was fine, tasting exactly as expected, but a staggering price for just Jameson, ginger beer & a dash of lime juice. Overall, a very tasty meal & nice experience. I definitely recommend.

On an absolutely gorgeous, cloudless, magical day, took the convertible to The Hare and the Hound (HH). It's been on my food bucket list ever since Yelp friend, Jason, gave it 5 glowing stars last year. 48 miles away from where I live, and GPS took me through about 10 towns, on numerous back country roads / routes. Farmland, orchards, rolling meadows, manure for sale... all the best sights and scents. Finally arrived in Putnam, which is a cool little town. A bunch of pubs / restaurants share a free muni lot, which was totally packed. Nice patio seating, and inside was handsomely appointed...dark wood, etched glass, cool lighting. Stacey welcomed me, and provided menus and water. I opted for a Yuengling and was debating the fish and chips or the cod dinner. Stacey deftly steered me to the fish and chips. But in lieu of the slaw, I asked for colcannon, since so few places offer it. While waiting for the food, listened to some interesting Irish music over the sound system (I vaguely remember the words "Rover from Dover"). The food was excellent. A generous piece of cod, perfectly breaded and fried; the FFs crispy, hot and nicely seasoned; the colcannon very hot and very tasty. Stacey is a definite rock star. Very affable and efficient, and a mainstay since HH opened about 4 yrs ago. In honor of departed friend, Ken "the Kid", toasted him w one of his favorites, Tullamore Dew. One quibble. Jason's review showed two nice pieces of beer battered cod. It seems they've cut back to one. Still, I will be back to try some of the other interesting menu items. And Wednesday and Thursday specials are very tempting. Great service and quality, good value. 4 and 1/2 stars

The food was amazing! I ordered the melt with chicken and it was a perfect mel The food was amazing! I ordered the melt with chicken and it was a perfect meld of flavors. The staff was friendly and gave some great suggestions. Will definitely return next time I'm in town!
